Several hotels, restaurants and bottling plants in Vientiane were recently certified by the Ministry of Health, having met health and safety standards for food preparation.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Deputy Minister of Health, Associate Prof. Dr Phouthone Moungpak, said the certification will provide assurance to the public, visitors and delegates attending the ongoing ASEAN Summits that food has been properly stored and prepared.

“We want to make sure that all the food we eat is safe and visitors do not suffer from food poisoning,” he said.

With food at the heart of Lao culture, hosting the ASEAN Summits creates a great opportunity for the country to show off its cuisine to visitors, making it even more important that restaurants follow health and safety standards.

The Ministry of Health will continue to check and certify hotels, restaurants and food processing facilities to ensure that local residents and visitors consume only safe food.
