Laos recorded a trade deficit of USD 45 million in October with imports and exports totaling USD 819 million.

According to information from the Lao Trade Portal, Laos’ exports were USD 387 million in October, while imports totaled USD 432 million, resulting in the lowest trade deficit of the year.

Major exports from Laos included copper ore, bananas, gold bars, clothing, coffee, rubber, tobacco, sweetcorn, and lumber.

Among the imports were land vehicles, electrical equipment and appliances, petrol, vehicle spare parts, plastic utensils, jewelry, fertilizers, and wood pulp.

China remained Laos’ biggest export destination, followed by Vietnam and Thailand, according to the report.

Thailand, China, and Vietnam were also the top source countries for imports.

The trade figure in the report did not include earnings from the export of electricity.

Meanwhile, Laos reported a trade surplus of USD 117 million in September, with exports topping imports for the first time in recent months.
