Wind turbine delivery continues as the country carries on with the development of the largest wind farm in Southeast Asia (SEA).
Following the delivery of the first batch of wind turbines and blades to Laos on 12 August, a second batch is speculated to be delivered to Sanxay District, Attapeu Province, which will see the setting up of 23 wind turbines. The trucks were spotted in Phonthong district, Champasack Province, Laos.
The Monsoon Wind Power Project, the largest wind farm in SEA, will have a capacity of 600 MW and consist of 133 turbines, which will be spread over 1,000 hectares of concession land in Sekong Province.
The project encompasses two districts in two different provinces: Dak Chuang District, Sekong Province and Sanxay District, Attapeu Province, covering an area of 64,000 hectares.
The project is set to be complete by 2025, including the construction of a USD 45.36 million, 45-kilometer power line, which will connect the Monsoon Wind Power Plant, to Thanh My Substation in the central province of Quang Nam, Vietnam.
The total expenditure of this project is estimated at USD 900 million (including the construction of the Laos-Vietnam border transformer station), and will be funded by Impact Electrons Siam Ltd (IES), Thailand’s top renewable energy solutions provider, Asian Development Bank (ADB), along with other co-financiers.
Vietnam Electricity (EVN) will be purchasing the energy generated from this project, as decided by a 25-year power purchase agreement.
