Foreign Affairs Institute Sees Construction Start in Capital

Work has begun on a new office for Foreign Affairs Institute in Vientiane, with a groundbreaking ceremony taking place on Wednesday in Phonphanao village, Xaysettha district.

Wednesday’s groundbrea-king ceremony was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Saleumxay Kommasith, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ms Khamphao Eunthavanh, and the Director of Chitchareune Construction Co., Ltd Mr. Somvang Vongvilay and officials.

Head Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr. Bounleua Phandanouvong reported that the Foreign Affairs Institute was official established in 1993.

In the period since the institute has been responsible for training and upgrading the foreign language skills of officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other ministries and bodies charged with duties that involve necessity of international communications.

The work on the new office should be finished by the middle of 2018 according to the projects construction schedule.

The new office is projected to cost over 23 billion kip and is funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and with Chitchareune Construction Co., Ltd as the contractor.

With space for 100 people, upon completion the new office will be available for use of officials, teachers and trainees for conduct of operations such as training courses.

The office will boast three floors including eight working rooms, eight training rooms, two meeting rooms, one computer room, guest room, and with full facilities for officials, teachers and other trainees.

Mr. Bounleua Phandanouvong said beside the office building, future plans for the site involve construction of an apartment building, restaurant, toilet amenities, parking and sports field to provide the facilities to officials and other users.
