The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology has issued a weekly weather forecast for Laos, warning of scorching temperatures in the south and central regions this week due to a hot weather low pressure covering the entire country.

While some parts of the country could anticipate light rainfall and thunderstorms, the central region, including Vientiane province, Bolikhamxay, Khammouan, and Savannakhet, will remain hot and humid with occasional light rain and hail. The minimum temperature is expected to hover around 22-25 degrees while the maximum could rise as high as 35-39 degrees.

Residents of Vientiane Capital can also expect hot temperatures, light fog and rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds in certain regions. The minimum temperature in Vientiane will be around 23-25 degrees, and the maximum temperature could shoot up to 36-39 degrees.

Meanwhile, Xaysomboun province is predicted to be colder than any other province in the north, with light fogs in the morning and thunderstorms, as well as wind in some areas. The temperature could drop down to 12-16 degrees and rise to 23-27 degrees during the day.

Although provinces in the southern regions such as Pakse, Paksong, and Attapeu can expect mild rain, thunderstorms, and hail, the overall weather will remain sweltering. The highest temperature could reach up to 36-38 degrees, while the lowest temperature will be around 24-28 degrees. In contrast, provinces in both northeast and northwest Laos are predicted to see colder weather compared to those in the south and central.

The northeast region, consisting of Phongsaly, Houaphanh, and Xieng Khouang provinces, will experience cold weather in the morning and will get warmer during the day. The region can also expect rain and hail, with the minimum temperature plummeting to 13-16 degrees and the maximum temperature rising up to 29-31 degrees.

Meanwhile, the northwest region, including Luang Prabang, Oudomxay, Luang Namtha, and Bokeo provinces, will also experience cold weather that gets progressively hotter, even hotter than the northeast region during the day. Mild rain and thunderstorms are expected in certain areas, with the temperature dropping to 17-21 degrees and being as high as 36-38 degrees during the daytime.

The weather department also attributed adverse weather conditions like strong winds, thunderstorms, and hail to the collision of cold and hot air masses from China, which is forecasted to result in light to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.
