ExploMar Unveils the SUPER/ISLAND Battery Platform to empower 200km range electric water transportation

VENICE, Italy, May 26, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — As a technology company focused on high-performance electric outboard motor systems, ExploMar has already launched the WAVE 300, WAVE 150+, and WAVE 70+ electric outboard motor systems, along with the 5S Energy Station solution. Recently, it announced the launch of a groundbreaking new product—the upgraded SUPER/ISLAND Battery Platform—set to be officially unveiled at the 2025 Venice Boat Show (at the booth of AS LABRUNA SRL). Through system-level capacity expansion and structural innovation, this platform represents a breakthrough in the “200 km range” technology barrier, laying a solid foundation for the global electric boating industry to enter a new era of medium-to-long-range practicality.

Waterborne transportation, a critical component of the global mobility network, stands on the cusp of a shift toward sustainability. The global leisure boating fleet has surpassed 30 million vessels, with an additional 930,000 expected to have been added in 2024, representing a market valued at approximately 46.9 billion USD. As environmental regulations tighten, fuel consumption is increasingly restricted, and energy costs continue to rise, green transportation is transitioning from a distant ideal to a tangible reality, driving the boating industry toward full electrification.

Compared to fuel-powered vessels, electric propulsion offers significant advantages in terms of lifecycle economics: energy costs are approximately one-fifth those of traditional boats, the lifespan of electric propulsion systems can be two to three times longer, and maintenance requirements are significantly lower—just one-tenth of those for conventional powertrains. At the same time, electric boats deliver clear environmental benefits, including zero emissions, low noise, and minimal pollution, positioning them as a key pathway for the future of sustainable waterborne transportation.

However, unlike the widespread adoption of electric cars on land, electric maritime transportation still faces key technological challenges—especially “range anxiety,” which is particularly evident in medium-to-long-distance cruising scenarios. The demand for waterborne shuttles, high-frequency operation vessels, and small to medium-sized electric ferries is growing, but current battery systems still struggle to support efficient operations for around 200 km while maintaining performance. To truly propel electric boats from short-range experiences to practical medium- and long-range capabilities, innovation at the system level, particularly in core battery technology, is essential.

Battery System Expansion to Meet Medium-to-Long-Range Demands
In ExploMar’s electric outboard motor systems, the battery is the core energy storage unit of the entire system. It not only determines the boat’s range but also plays a critical role in power output stability and operating costs. The newly launched SUPER/ISLAND Battery Platform has achieved system-level capacity expansion, featuring exceptional modular configuration capabilities.

Each outboard motor system can be configured with up to 270 kWh, while a dual-motor system can extend to 540 kWh, and a four-motor system can achieve a total energy capacity of 1,080 kWh. This not only meets the high-frequency usage demands of working boats and leisure vessels but also makes the full electrification transformation of traditional, high-fuel-consumption vessels, such as medium-sized ferries, a realistic possibility.

High Energy Density and Dual Thermal Management for Multi-Climate High-Performance Needs
On the performance front, the SUPER/ISLAND Battery Platform uses next-generation cells with an energy density of 250 Wh/kg, effectively balancing long lifespan, lightweight design, and high-power output requirements. This allows the entire system to maintain extended range while offering agile power response. The battery supports 1C to 2C high-discharge rates and fast charging capabilities and is compatible with both 400V and 800V voltage platforms, interfacing with mainstream port fast-charging networks to significantly improve energy replenishment efficiency at harbor and temporary dock sites.

Moreover, to address multi-climate operational challenges, the SUPER/ISLAND Battery Platform incorporates a dual thermal management system: a liquid cooling system ensures stable operation in hot climates, while an electronic heating system quickly activates in cold conditions to maintain cell activity and safe discharge. This dual-temperature intelligent thermal control design ensures that electric boats can operate stably in various climate conditions worldwide, enhancing the global navigability of electric systems.

Boatyard-Friendly, On-Demand Expansion, Creating a Flexible and Efficient Integrated Solution
The SUPER/ISLAND Battery Platform is designed with compatibility and installation flexibility in mind, optimizing the integration with the overall vessel design. The modular battery uses a double-layer cell stacking structure, with fixed dimensions of 710 mm in width and 300 mm in height. This design makes full use of the stern area space and allows for optimized vessel balance and layout.

Through ExploMar’s proprietary BMS battery management system and highly integrated high-voltage E/E architecture, a single electric outboard system can support up to three battery packs. Featuring the theme “Technological Progress Bringing New Opportunities for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment,” ways that digital transformation and technological innovation can boost women’s economic independence, reduce their labor burdens, and elevate their decision-making power in their families and communities were explored at the dialogue. Chinese experience was also contributed to global efforts to promote gender-sensitive rural transformation in the digital era, in addition to strategies China has used in poverty reduction and balanced regional development being showcased.

The fourth iteration of the annual Sci-Tech Empowering Rural Transformation event series, this year’s held special significance – it coincided with the 80th anniversary of the United Nations and the 30th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women – the most important of the four conferences on women held between 1975 and 1995 – and the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action – a visionary agenda for the empowerment of women.

Drawing on insights contained in the 2024 Sci-Tech Empowering Rural Transformation: HER Power, HER Stories report – a collaborative effort that delineates various challenges encountered in empowering rural women through science and technology and indicates that China has created an effective institutional environment that facilitates women’s active participation in agricultural development and that this is a primary factor that enables technology to empower Chinese women – the event featured a rich mix of dialogue sessions, case study exhibitions, visual storytelling, field visits, and thematic panels designed to highlight the latest trends and practices with regard to how women, both in China and globally, are using technology to drive development and also fostered knowledge exchange and cooperation pertaining to gender-equitable rural innovation among developing countries.

Co-hosted by a coalition of Chinese and international organizations, including the China Internet Information Center (CIIC), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Representation in China, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) China Office, the World Food Programme (WFP) China Office, the Centre for Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP-CSAM), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in China, and the People’s Government of Fenghuang County, the event was also supported by the Ant Foundation and the China Foundation for Rural Development (CFRD).

Around 100 participants – including rural women, scholars, government officials, representatives of international organizations, NGOs, and businesses, and members of the media – engaged either in person or online.

“When we invest in women’s access to science and technology in rural communities, the benefits ripple across entire societies,” Siddharth Chatterjee, UN resident coordinator in China, stated in a pre-recorded video message that was played during the event’s opening ceremony. “China’s rural e-commerce villages, women-led agritech cooperatives, and digital literacy campaigns offer models the world can follow.”

Gao Anming, editor-in-chief of the China International Communications Group (CICG) and director general of the CIIC, echoed the sentiment, remarking: “When digital technology meets women’s creativity, it transcends geographical and gender boundaries. China’s experiences in driving equity through innovation offer valuable lessons for the world.”

Participants also conducted field visits to a site associated with the Digital Mulan Homestay Manager Digital Literacy Training Project and some of the locations involved with the IFAD Hunan Rural Revitalization Demonstration Project.

Jointly launched by China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism’s Department of Market Management, the Ant Foundation, and the CFRD, the Digital Mulan Homestay Manager Digital Literacy Training Project was created in order to provide vocational skill instruction and digital literacy training to rural women. As of the end of 2024, more than 6,600 women living in 16 of China’s provincial-level administrative areas have received guesthouse management training through the program, and many of them have gradually become industry experts.

The IFAD Hunan Rural Revitalization Demonstration Project is a US$173 million initiative directly benefiting 328,000 people across 10 counties, 50% of whom are women, 30% of whom are youth, and 30% of whom are part of ethnic minority groups. The project is designed to promote inclusive rural development, climate-resilient infrastructure construction, the development of rural business service systems, and vocational training for people who live in rural areas. The IFAD has invested more than US$510 million in four projects in Hunan province alone since 1999.

Meanwhile, for creators, Live Trading offers them a new way to grow their audience, demonstrate trading expertise, and earn directly from engagement. Eligible creators with at least 1,000 followers on Binance Square can share up to 100 past trades during a session, pin strategy cards for in-stream visibility, and earn up to 50% commission on trading fees when users follow their strategies. Additional exposure opportunities include featured livestreams, competitions, and curated campaigns — turning trading content into real-time influence. Experienced traders with less than 1,000 followers can also apply for the Binance Square Live Trading Incubation Program to participate.

Lunit Highlights AI’s Role in Advancing Precision Oncology at ASCO 2025 with 12 Studies

SEOUL, South Korea, May 26, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Lunit (KRX:328130.KQ), a leading provider of AI for cancer diagnostics and therapeutics, today announced that 12 studies featuring its AI-powered digital pathology solution will be presented at the 2025 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting, taking place May 30–June 3 in Chicago, IL. Of these, 11 studies will be presented as posters and one as an online publication.

One of the featured studies, conducted with Japan’s National Cancer Center Hospital East (NCCE), evaluated HER2 expression in biliary tract cancer (BTC) patients using Lunit’s AI-powered analyzer. The resulting AI scores showed strong agreement with pathologist-assigned IHC scores in a 288-patient screening cohort. Among 29 patients treated with trastuzumab deruxtecan (T-DXd), those with higher levels of HER2-intense tumor cells achieved a higher objective response rate (ORR) of 50%, along with significantly longer progression-free survival and overall survival. The study also found that AI-derived “membrane specificity” helped identify additional responders who achieved a 50% ORR and improved survival. This group included not only HER2-intense patients but also some traditionally classified as HER2-low, suggesting that the metric may expand the pool of patients who can benefit from T-DXd. These findings suggest that AI-powered HER2 analysis – especially when incorporating membrane specificity – could expand access to targeted treatment and enable more precise therapy selection in BTC.

A separate prospective study conducted with NCCE evaluated the concordance between pathologist- and AI-assessed PD-L1 expression in lung cancer patients enrolled in LC-SCRUM, one of Japan’s largest nationwide observational cohorts, using Lunit SCOPE PD-L1. The study included 847 non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and 102 small cell lung cancer (SCLC) patients. The overall concordance between the AI model and three expert pathologists was 70%. Concordance was particularly high in key subgroups: 84% for TPS ≥50% and 94% for TPS 1–49%. Of the 416 patients initially classified as TPS <1% by pathologists, the AI identified 231 with higher PD-L1 expression. Since PD-L1 scoring is widely used to guide treatment eligibility, these results highlight the potential of AI-powered PD-L1 evaluation to uncover additional candidates for immunotherapy who may have been previously excluded based on low TPS. The high concordance with expert pathologists also reinforces the reliability of the AI model as a clinical decision-support tool.

A third highlighted study introduced an AI model to predict CLDN18.2 expression in gastric cancer. CLDN18.2 is a therapeutic target for zolbetuximab. It is typically assessed using immunohistochemistry (IHC), which is often limited by tissue quantity, cost, and time. To address this, researchers trained the AI on H&E slides and validated it in the external cohort. The model achieved AUROCs over 0.751, suggesting the potential to efficiently pre-screen CLDN18.2-positive patients using only H&E slides. The study also analyzed immune phenotypes using AI-powered whole-slide image analysis to explore treatment implications. Among patients predicted to be CLDN18.2-negative, those with an “inflamed” phenotype—marked by high tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte (TIL) density—showed significantly better outcomes when treated with immune checkpoint inhibitor plus chemotherapy compared to chemotherapy alone. These findings suggest that combining AI-based CLDN18.2 prediction with immune phenotype analysis could guide first-line treatment decisions without additional IHC tests.
