24th ASEAN Energy Business Forum Set to Support Laos’ ASEAN Chairmanship

The ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) and the Ministry of Energy and Mines in Laos are delighted to announce that the 24th ASEAN Energy Business Forum (AEBF-24) is set to convene in Vientiane Capital from 25 to 27 September.

The forum will align with Laos’ ASEAN Chairmanship under the theme, “ASEAN: Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience,” spotlighting the paramount importance of regional collaboration in fostering connectivity and energy resilience.

Dr. Akomdeth Vongsay, Director General of the Department of Planning and Cooperation, Ministry of Energy and Mines, and Senior Official on Energy (SOE) Leader of Laos expressed his delight in hosting AEBF-24 in Laos during its ASEAN Chairmanship.

He stated, “We are pleased to host the 24th ASEAN Energy Business Forum (AEBF-24) this year. It is a testament to Laos’ commitment to advancing regional cooperation in the energy sector. Under the theme of ‘Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience,’ we aim to strengthen ASEAN’s connectivity, promote economic integration, and fortify the region’s energy resilience.”

AEBF-24 will be held in conjunction with the 42nd ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM-42) and the 4th ASEAN International Conference on Energy and Environment (AICEE). It will feature various activities, including High-Level Panel Discussions and Minister-CEO Dialogue, providing a platform for thought leaders, policymakers, and industry professionals to discuss crucial energy challenges and prospects in the ASEAN region.

Dr. Nuki Agya Utama, Executive Director of ACE, emphasised ACE’s full commitment to supporting Laos’ ASEAN chairmanship through AEBF-24.

He stated, “We are steadfast in our commitment to supporting Lao PDR’ ASEAN chairmanship. Not only supporting Laos’ energy priorities, but AEBF-24 will also contribute to the regional targets of ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) Phase II: 2021-2025 through fostering collaboration and showcase innovations between the governments, private sector, and academia.

As the AEBF-24 approaches, ACE stands resolute in its commitment to shaping a dynamic and interconnected energy landscape for the ASEAN region. Beyond the confines of a traditional forum, ACE envisions AEBF-24 as a catalyst for sustained collaboration, innovation, and resilience.

About ASEAN Centre of Energy (ACE)

Established on 1 January 1999, the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) is an intergovernmental organisation within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations’ (ASEAN) structure that represents the 10 ASEAN Member States’ (AMS) interests in the energy sector. ACE supports the implementation of the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC), a blueprint for better collaboration towards upgrading energy. The Centre is guided by a Governing Council composed of Senior Officials on Energy from each AMS and a representative from the ASEAN Secretariat as an ex-officio member.

The three key roles of the Enhanced ACE:

  • As an ASEAN energy think tank to assist the AMS by identifying and surfacing innovative solutions for ASEAN’s energy challenges on policies, legal & regulatory frameworks and technologies.
  • As a catalyst to unify and strengthen ASEAN energy cooperation and integration by implementing relevant capacity building programmes and projects to assist the AMS develop their energy sector.
  • As the ASEAN energy data centre and knowledge hub to provide a knowledge repository for the AMS.
