Crops growing on 776 hectares in Huaphan province have been damaged by locusts, causing huge financial losses, local media reported on Friday.
The locust invasions occurred in 233 areas in 61 villages of six districts, the Socio-Economic Daily reported.
The affected districts are Xamneua, Viengxay, Et, Huameuang, Xon and Hiem. Et, Xon and Xamneua districts reported the most serious losses, according to the provincial Agriculture and Forestry Department.
The government has awarded more than 200 million kip to affected villagers and an additional 50 million kip to provincial authorities to help battle the insect army.
