The Committee of Permanent Representatives (CPR) to ASEAN yesterday convened a meeting in Vientiane to discuss preparations for the Senior Officials’ Meeting (ASEAN SOM), ASEAN Coordinating Council (ACC), the 28th and 29th ASEAN Summits and its related meetings.
The 12th CPR meeting was chaired by the Permanent Representative of Laos to ASEAN Ms Latsamy Keomany and attended by senior officials from other ASEAN member states.
During the meeting, Permanent Representatives focused on preparing the content for ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting (ASEAN SOM), ASEAN Coordinating Council (ACC), the 28th and 29th Asean Summits and its related meetings which are scheduled to take place from September 6-8 in Vientiane.
Over the past seven months of Laos’ chairmanship, the country has hosted and chaired a number of ASEAN meetings at different levels covering the three Asean pillars namely: political-security, economic and socio-cultural.
These included the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat, ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting, ASEAN Labour Ministers’ Meeting, 49th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and the 48th ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Meeting and its related meetings.
T he Permanent Representatives collectively constitute a Committee of Permanent Representatives (CPR), which shall support the work of the ASEAN Community Councils and ASEAN Sectoral Ministerial Bodies and coordinate with ASEAN National Secretariats and other ASEAN Sectoral Ministerial Bodies.
The CPR will also liaise with the Secretary-General of ASEAN and other ASEAN Secretariat on all subjects relevant to its work; facilitate ASEAN cooperation with external partners; and perform such other functions as may be determined by theASEAN Coordinating Council.
