The Foundation for Promoting Education handed over a quantity of educational equipment and uniforms to disadvantaged students in Vientiane on Monday.
The foundation also conferred prizes on outstanding students as well as praise for good teachers, at a total cost of over 192 million kip.
The Foundation for Promoting Education (FPE) is a non-profit organisation neither aiming to generate profit nor political gains.
FPE feels a resilient need to help develop Lao education and its curriculum to the next level and to eventually attain international standards.
These are immense imperatives in regards to building strong human resources with essential skillsets and capabilities.
The FPE was established on June 24, 1997 with a role of contributing to the development of Lao education from the regional level to the international level.
The FPE volunteered to be a collector of ideas and financial aids, as well as teaching and learning materials from everyone who is interested in helping disadvantaged students.
Your giving hands and hearts will all be a tremendous contribution in achieving its four main objectives, which include promoting gifted students, providing opportunities for students who lack resources, honour and support to remarkable teachers and contributing to the construction and development of well-equipped school buildings.
Besides that, the FPE also have been seeking funds to construct school buildings around the country for promoting the Lao education.
For 2016 to 2017, FPE has a tentative expenditure plan of 550 million kip. A commencement ceremony will be held in October each year.
A ceremony to hand over the educational equipment took place at the Vientiane Secondary School in Vientiane on Monday and was attended by Deputy Minister of Education and Sports Mr. Lytou Buapao, the President of the Foundation for Promoting Education, Mr. Somphien Saiyadeth, the FPE board members, guests, teachers and students.
On this occasion, the FPE provided educational equipment and uniforms to 230 students who are lacking opportunities, as well as presenting awards to outstanding students, praising good teachers and supporting students from other provinces with their accommodation.
In total, the FPE has provided support to the educational sector totalling 192,800,000 kip.
The development goals of the FPE include assisting teachers to meeting the required standards, developing quality education and contributing learning and teaching materials as well as laboratory equipment.
It is also helping to improve library facilities to help foster reading, help promote learning and utilising English language, helping to develop information technology for education, and encouraging students’ participation in sports and promoting extra-curricular activities.
