Lao National Television has confirmed that it will begin to broadcast news on YouTube.
The station has recently signed an agreement with Music Rights Management of Thailand Co., Ltd., to begin a news broadcasting service on YouTube.
The agreement was signed with the Thai company to protect the copyright of content owned by Lao National Television, after copied news services were posted on social media.
By broadcasting on YouTube, the Lao National Television news services will be accessible any time of the day. The service will also generate revenue for the station because of the large number of views.
The agreement will last until 2020, and may be extended.
Representatives of Lao National Television have confirmed that the service hopes to screen better programming in future, with more interesting news items and feature programs.
President of the Lao Journalists’ Association, Mr Savankhone Razmountry, who is also Deputy Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, suggested that news programs should focus on Party policy and said Lao National Television officials must promote solidarity.
He also advised television officials to improve and develop their skills so they could better respond to the needs of the public.
Officials should cooperate more with their colleagues when reporting and presenting news so that programs are well coordinated and of high quality as well as meeting public demand.
