Laos Confirms 155 New Cases of Covid-19, Two Deaths

Laos has confirmed 155 new cases of Covid-19 and two new deaths, bringing the total number of cases to 14,846.

Dr. Lattanaxay Phetsouvanh led the daily announcement by the National Taskforce today, saying that 2,212 tests had been conducted over the past 24 hours.

Some 15 cases of community spread were recorded, with one in Vientiane Province, nine in Savannakhet, one in Salavanh, three in Bokeo, one in Luang Namtha, and nine in Savannakhet.

In Vientiane Province, an infected person left Bokeo Province and returned to Kasi District, and is now in quarantine.

In Savannakhet, one medical worker became infected with Covid-19, while the rest have been confirmed throughout multiple villages in Kaysone Phomvihane City.

In Salavanh, the case of community spread involved a quarantine center employee.

Meanwhile, 140 imported cases were confirmed, with five in Vientiane Capital, 19 in Savannakhet, 53 in Champasack, 48 in Salavanh, 14 in Khammouane, and one in Luang Prabang.

The country now has 5,040 active cases of Covid-19, while the Taskforce announced two new deaths in Savannakhet Province today, bringing the death toll from Covid-19 in Laos to 14.

Two New Deaths in Savannakhet Province

Dr. Lattanaxay said the country’s 13th death involved a 33-year-old man from Takdet Village, Xayphothong District, Savannakhet Province.

The man was an inmate of Savannakhet Prison, and began to exhibit symptoms of Covid-19 on 25 August. He passed away on 29 August 2021.

The 14th death was a 74-year-old woman in Lattanalangsy Tai Village, Kaysone Phomvihane City.

She had suffered from hypertension and had been admitted to hospital on 27 August.

She passed away on 29 August.
