A man was shot dead in his car in Nongnieng Village, Saysettha District, Vientiane Capital yesterday.
The body of a man, as yet unidentified, was found in his black Hyundai vehicle in Nongnieng Village.
Witnesses called Vientiane Rescue 1624 to the scene after finding the man in the driver’s seat while the car was riddled with bullet holes.
The incident occurred yesterday evening at about 5:00 PM in front of Jimmy Restaurant in Saysettha.
Police arrived at the scene to investigate and have called upon anyone with knowledge regarding the incident to provide information.
Many have speculated that the incident may be a drug-related crime, with narcotics violence on the rise since the covid epidemic, prompting the government of Laos to declare the drug problem a national agenda.
Laos faces serious social problems related to widespread drug abuse and trafficking, jeopardizing social security and order.
According to a notice issued by the Prime Minister’s Office on 12 May, the Ministry of Public Security is to consider adding stronger penalties to its drug suppression agenda.
