Laos Records Trade Surplus in September

Laos recorded a trade surplus in September, with exports topping imports for the first time in recent months.

According to data from the Lao Trade Portal website, Laos enjoyed a total trade value of USD 777 million in September, with exports reaching USD 447 million, while imports were valued at USD 330 million.

Major exports included copper ore, banana, mixed gold (gold bars), clothes, sugar, rubber, watermelon, passion fruit, tamarind, tobacco, and rice.

Imports in September included vehicles excluding motorcycles and tractors, electrical devices and equipment, steel and steel products, magnetic steel, auto parts, premium and regular grade fuel, and plastic products.

The top export destination for Laos was China, followed by Vietnam and Thailand.

Meanwhile, Laos imported mostly from Thailand, China, and Vietnam.

Trade figures excluded earnings from the export of electricity.
