Rainy Season Begins in Laos

This Week

Laos has entered the rainy season after only a brief hot spell, with wet weather ahead for the near future.

The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology has said a low-pressure system is now covering all areas of the country, with monsoon storms prevalent in the southwestern regions over the next few days.

Warmer temperatures and thunderstorms are expected across the country over the weekend and into next week.

In the northeastern provinces of Phongsaly, Houaphanh, and Xieng Khouang, cooler nights can be expected, with heavy rain and thunderstorms in some areas, while temperatures will reach highs of between 28 to 30 degrees during the day.

In the northwest, including Oudomxay, Luang Namtha, Luang Prabang, and Xayaboury, warmer weather is expected, reaching up to 35 during the day. Strong winds, rain, and thunderstorms are forecast.

Central and southern provinces, including Vientiane Province, Savannakhet, Khammouane, and Champasack will also see warm temperatures up to 36 degrees, with strong winds and thunderstorms expected.

Vientiane Capital will see the mercury rise to 35 degrees, while rain, strong winds, and heavy storms are expected.

Meteorologists in Thailand have said that their country will officially enter the rainy season today, expecting the wet weather to continue until mid-October.

A shortage of rainfall is expected in Thailand for a few weeks in mid-June, however.
