The Prime Minister of Laos has sent a condolence message to China after the passing of former Chinese President, Jiang Zemin.
The message from Prime Minister Phankham Viphavanh read,” On behalf of the Central Executive Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, the Government, the people of Laos, and personally, I would like to express my deepest condolences to my comrades to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the Government and the people of China on the death of Comrade Jiang Zemin, former General Secretary, former President, former Chairman of the Central Military Commission on 30 November 2022.
Throughout the life of Comrade Jiang Zemin, he devoted his energy and intelligence tirelessly to the revolutionary mission of the Communist Party of China and the mission of protecting and developing the nation of China, as the initiator of the “3 Reforms”, as well as leading the mission of reforming and opening the door to the outside of China as well as leading the nation to achieve success in reuniting Hong Kong and Macao regions back to the motherland.
Comrade Jiang Zemin is also one of the Chinese leaders who has paid attention to promoting and enhancing China-Laos relations, opening a new page in the history of Lao-China, China-Laos cooperation in the 21st century with long-term stability, neighborly friendship, mutual trust, and comprehensive cooperation which is an important step in the cooperation between the two parties, the two states and the people of the two Lao-Chinese nations, which continues to be continuously enhanced by the successive generations of the two countries.
The passing of Comrade Jiang Zemin is not only the loss of a beloved leader of the Party, Government, and the people of China, but also the loss of a friend, a close companion of the Party, Government, and people of Laos.
At this sad time, I would like to express my deepest condolences and share my grief with my comrades to the party, government, Chinese people, and the family of Comrade Jiang Zemin.”
Thongloun Sisoulith, President of Laos and General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, also visited China recently as part of a state visit from 29 November to 1 December.
