Houaphanh Names Cherry Blossom as its Provincial Flower

Houaphanh officials announced Cherry Blossom as its provincial flower on Sunday in Houaphanh-Thanh Hóa park located in the province.

The announcement ceremony was attended by Houaphanh governor, Mr. Vanhxay Phaengsoumma, Ambassador of Japan to Laos, Mr. Kobayashi Kenichi, and Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Information-Culture and Tourism, Mr. Ounthuang Khaophan, among other officials.

This event was part of the province’s efforts to preserve the flora and fauna of the region. On the occasion, the gathered dignitaries also announced the formal opening of the Cherry Blossom Festival 2022, which took place in Xam Neua, Viengxay districts during 23-26 December, and attracted local and international tourists alike.

The festival saw visitors planting Cherry Blossom saplings, visiting the markets at the festival, and embracing the beauty of Cherry Blossom flowers along route number 6 from Xam Neua to Viengxay districts. They also had an opportunity to visit the Laos-Japan friendship garden in Viengxay and several famous tourist spots in Viengxay Municipality.

Houaphanh has planted 160,552 Cherry Blossom trees till date. The province plans to grow more Cherry Blossoms between 2023-2025 in ten districts of Houaphanh province.

Last week, CNN listed Champasack’s Pakse district as one of the top underrated places in Asia.
