Lao Woman Fatally Shot by Police Officer in Champasack

A police officer in Pakse city, Champasack Province, shot and killed a Laotian-Vietnamese woman in her home on Tuesday.

Lao Public Security magazine reports that a gunshot was reported by neighboring residents after a man shot a woman dead while she was dining with her family at around 6:30 pm.

The gunman was identified as 34-year-old Pasansack Visatheb, a police officer in Pakse city, who shot the woman, a resident of the city.

Mr. Pasansack first stormed into the woman’s home and into her dining room where was present with her husband and children and fired three bullets in the air to threaten the family. He then shot the woman in the head with a rifle before shooting himself. The woman’s husband and her children survived without injuries.

The two casualties supposedly had an affair before the incident. The police officer was under the influence of alcohol when he shot the 34-year-old woman, according to the police.

Since October, the woman had allegedly received threatening messages on social media and phone calls from her perpetrator.

Police in Pakse City and provincial police are continuing to investigate the scene and look into the motives of this incident.
