Laos Stands Out in Miss Universe 2022 Preliminary Round


Social media users in Laos, the United States, and other countries have expressed their admiration for Miss Universe Laos 2022 Payengxa Lor after she participated in the preliminary round of the global pageant and advanced to the semi-finals.

The 21-year-old contestant introduced herself in the Meet The Delegates round and was greeted with a sea of applause. The Wednesday night event saw participation from 89 models from around the world and was held at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, New Orleans, Louisiana.

Lor also participated in the Preliminary Swimsuit and Evening Gown competitions on the same night.

Representing her country every step of the way, the Business Management student wore an outfit inspired by the ethnic minority groups of Laos during the National Costume round at the contest. The costume featured patterns and motifs inspired by the traditional designs of the Khmu, Lowland Lao, and Hmong peoples.

After the competition, Payengxa Lor discussed her outfit and its significance during an interview with the Thai news outlet JKN18 News, which is the official media partner of the Miss Universe Organization.

21-year-old Khanxay Theamphoukham, a young fashion designer from Laos, was selected to design the intricate outfit, according to Miss Universe Laos FB page.

Miss Universe Laos recently topped the list of the 71st Miss Universe contestants based on fan votes. Hundreds of Lor’s followers have been sending her good wishes ahead of the final competition which will take place on January 14, Saturday.
