Laos National Assembly Approves Cabinet Reshuffle and New Appointments

The Government of Laos approved the replacement of three ministers in a surprise reshuffle.

Vice President of the National Assembly, Ms. Sounthone Xayachack announced that three government officials had been appointed to the rank of minister of three different ministries, replacing the previous  ministers who have been transferred to new positions.

The governor of Savannakhet, Mr. Santiphap Phomvihane, has been appointed as the Minister of Finance, while the Governor of Salavanh province, Mr. Phoxay Sayasone, has been given the position of the Ministry of Energy and Mines. Finally, the Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, Mr. Ngampasong Muongmany, has been promoted to minister of the same ministry.

The former Minister of Public Works and Transport, Dr. Viengsavath Siphandone will take up a new post in Luang Namtha province. Meanwhile, the former Minister of Finance, Mr. Bounchom Oubonpaseuth, will begin a new position in Savannakhet province. The former Minister of Energy and Mines, Dr. Daovong Phonekeo, will take up a new role in the province of Salavanh.

The approval was granted in response to the Prime Minister’s proposal.
