Twenty-five Chinese nationals have been deported from Laos after they attempted to enter the country illegally in Yodou District, Phongsaly Province.

Media Laos reports that 25 Chinese nationals, including two women, were handed over to customs authorities in China at the Lanetoui International Border Checkpoint between Phongsaly Province and Southern Province of Yunnan in China.

Mr. Bounthon Sikaitong, Deputy Head of the General Police Department in Yodou District, Phongsaly Province, said that the Chinese nationals were found illegally entering the province through dirt roads.

The Chinese nationals intended to travel and visit Laos without legal documents, but police officers of the Yodou District detained them on the charge of illegal immigration, according to Mr. Bounthon.

Chinese customs officers expressed their appreciation to the police officers in Laos for their attention to monitoring this issue.

The Provincial Department of Foreign Affairs in Phongsaly Province announced the reopening of the Lanetoui International Border Checkpoint between Phongsaly Province and Yunnan Province in China this week to allow citizens of Laos and China to freely travel across the border for work or leisure with valid documentation in place.
