Distinguished women leaders from international organizations, embassies, and the government of Laos, convened at the German Embassy in Vientiane to celebrate International Women’s Day.

The dinner event was held to honor the significance of International Women’s Day and provide a platform for women in Laos to share and discuss their personal development and aspirations.

Among the notable attendees were Ms. Annette Knobloch, the German Ambassador to Laos, Ms. Siv-Leng Chhuor, the French Ambassador to Laos, and Ms. Mariam Khan, the UNFPA representative to Laos. About 30 women from different fields, including law, diplomacy, environment, education, and fashion, also attended the gathering.

During the event, Ms. Knobloch reflected, “March 8th is a day of celebration. It’s a day that recognizes the progress we have made from the restrictions that once controlled women’s lives and the barriers they encountered.”

Participants shared their perspectives on the challenges they face both professionally and personally. Ms. Mariam Khan shared her personal story of how her father refused her opportunities because of her gender, which ultimately transformed her outlook and strengthened her resolve.

The event also featured guest speakers from various areas of expertise who shared their own personal experiences and achievements.

The gathering provided a valuable opportunity for women leaders in Laos to come together, celebrate their progress, and inspire each other to continue to break down barriers and achieve their goals.
