Vietnam to Offer Visa Exemptions to More Countries

This Week

Vietnam will grant visa-free entry to more countries and prolong the maximum stay duration of international visitors to bolster the recovery of its tourism industry, said the Vietnamese Prime Minister, Mr. Pham Minh Chinh on Wednesday.

During the post-Covid recovery conference, the Prime Minister said that the government will expand the list of eligible countries for e-visas as well.

“The government will create favorable conditions for domestic and international airlines to open direct routes connecting Vietnam with key tourism markets,” he added.

The Vietnamese Real Estate Company Sun Group Chairman, Mr. Dang Minh Truong, also spoke at the conference and suggested that the government consider exempting visas from crucial markets such as Australia, Canada, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Belgium.

Additionally, he proposed that the government increase the 15-day visa-free stay for tourists from key markets such as Europe to 30-45 days.

According to the news report, the government has yet to reinstate the three-month multi-entry visa that was available during the pre-covid period.

The report also said that the 30 days visa free-stay is currently available only for citizens from Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, and Kyrgyzstan while tourists from Chile and Panama are eligible for the 90-day visa-free stay.

The move to expand visas came after Vietnamese officials expressed worries about the country’s tight immigration requirements that were hindering its tourism recovery on Monday and advocated for more open regulations.
