Vendors in Lung Prabang have painted the sidewalk with a message " Reserved" without permission from provincial authorities before the Lao New Year.

Authorities in the province of Luang Prabang have announced that vendors will be allowed to set up shops without permission at the Traditional Market Fair during the Lao New Year.

The market fair is set to take place between the Post Office and That Luang Field starting on April 14 and will feature local products and food from the province.

Vendors have already begun marking areas in the city’s main streets with spray paint and ropes in preparation for the event. However, the province has appointed a committee to allocate areas to vendors and check if shops are being set up as per regulations.

Those who violate the regulations, especially the prevalent but unauthorized practice of using spray paint and ropes to mark the point of sale, will receive warnings and have to pay fines.

Mr. Somvang Phommakone, Head of the Luang Prabang Industry and Commerce Office, has urged individuals or business entities who wish to sell products or advertise at the event to contact the responsible committee which could allocate an area for them to do so.

Luang Prabang is known for its traditional Lao New Year activities and programs, which are set to take place alongside the market fair from April 14 onward.
