The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology issued a warning that extreme weather from China may approach Laos between 13-16 April during the Lao New Year.

A cool air mass from China may spread across the northern and central parts of Laos, combined with the constant hot air, which could possibly cause some parts of the country to experience extreme weather like thunderstorms and hail, informed the weather department.

Phongsaly, Houaphanh, and Xieng Khouang provinces will see temperatures range from 13 degrees Celsius to 31 degrees Celsius throughout the day. Thunderstorms and hail are expected in these provinces during this period as well.

Northwest provinces such as Luang Namtha, Bokeo, Oudomxay, and Luang Prabang will experience early morning lows of 17 degrees Celsius and afternoon highs of 39 degrees Celsius.

Temperatures between 22 and 39 degrees Celsius are anticipated in the central provinces of Vientiane Capital, Bolikhamxay, and Khammouane, along with thunderstorms and strong winds.

In the south, the weather is predicted to remain the same as last week, hot and humid, although occasional gusts of winds are expected. Temperatures in the south will range from 24-40 degrees Celsius.

Residents have been urged to follow weather forecasts through the Meteorology and Hydrology Department’s Facebook page and prepare for extreme weather if necessary.
