Thanks to the encouragement from their fellow countrymen and women, Lao athletes have won more medals than expected at the 32nd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, which just concluded in Cambodia.

The games came to an end on May 17, with the Lao Brewery Company Ltd. providing LAK 300 million to support those who won medals for Laos and raised the country’s profile in the regional sporting arena.

Thanks to Lao Brewery Company Ltd.’s assistance for the country’s athletes, after two weeks of competitions Laos finished ninth out of the 11 countries taking part in the SEA Games.

Lao athletes were proud to win 88 medals, including six gold, 22 silver and 60 bronze, winning more medals compared to the number won at last year’s 31st SEA Games in Vietnam.

The target at the games in Cambodia this month was five gold medals, but Laos’ sportsmen and women excelled and exceeded the target, thanks to the support of Lao Brewery Company Ltd, especially through their main products like Beer Lao.

This also reflects the company’s great commitment to the promotion and development of Lao athletes, aspiring to greater glory on the international stage.

Taking place from May 5-17, the 32nd SEA Games was the latest edition of the biennial sports event, which is the biggest sporting competition in the Southeast Asian region.

This year, Cambodia hosted the SEA Games for the first time, with more than 6,000 athletes from 11 Southeast Asian countries taking part in the prestigious and hotly contested event.

Athletes battled it out for 584 medals in 36 sports, while a team of 576 Lao athletes and trainers competed for medals in 32 sports.

During the SEA Games, everyone in Laos was encouraged to rally behind the nation’s athletes, and together with the Lao Brewery Company Ltd. to show their full support under the slogan “Proud to be Lao”.

Lao people across the country enthusiastically voiced their support for Lao athletes, encouraging them to perform at their highest level and surpass their previous achievements at the SEA Games, in the hope that they would triumph over other competitors and bring home a sizeable medal haul.

Now their well-deserved success has warmed the hearts of Lao people everywhere and brought happiness and smiles to the whole country. Let us applaud their efforts and give our athletes the recognition they deserve, so they reach greater sporting heights in the years to come.
