Payengxa Lor, Miss Universe Laos 2022 and a finalist at the Miss Universe pageant, and Piyamarth Phounpaseuth, Miss International Laos 2018 attended the Cannes Film Festival this year.
The two pageant winners from Laos departed from Vientiane’s Wattay International Airport on Tuesday for Paris where they were greeted and welcomed by members of the Lao diaspora settled in France.
They then traveled to the French Riviera town of Cannes to participate in the 76th Annual Cannes Film Festival, one of the most prestigious and renowned events in the film industry, that sees participation from filmmakers, celebrities, and cinephiles from around the world.
Payengxa Lor and Piyamarth Phounpaseuth, also known as Barbie, walked on the red carpet wearing gorgeous dresses from DaDa Fashion Hmong, a Hmong designer from Laos, and Billy Siamphan, a Lao designer based in Vientiane Capital, respectively.
22-year-old Payengxa described her outfit as, “A unique purple dress that represents both Lao and Hmong culture and is made with Lao silk.”

Barbie Piyamarth Phounpaseuth walked the carpet in a standout yellow and purple dress. The attendance of both women was sponsored by BMW and Indochina Bank in Laos.
The Cannes Film Festival spans a period of 12 days and will conclude on May 27, 2023.
