The Ministry of Education and Sports issued a notice last week warning the public of unauthorized scholarships to China and Vietnam for students from Laos.

The notice was put out after a wave of privately owned enterprises and individuals took to Facebook to advertise scholarships from the Chinese Scholarship Council (CSC) and the Vietnamese government.

The Ministry gave a clarification saying that none of the scholarships on offer have been authorized by the government.

At the end of the notice, the Ministry stated that the Student Affairs department in the Ministry is ready to provide any assistance regarding the matter, and is willing to cooperate with the public to prevent them from applying for these scholarships.

The Ministry hasn’t yet confirmed whether the advertisements on social media were of actual scholarships or just a scheme to trick the public. However, the Ministry has warned people to be careful while applying for such kinds of financial aid which is not affiliated with the government.

The China Scholarship Council (CSC) is the Chinese Ministry of Education’s non-profit organization that provides support for international academic exchange with China and is the primary vehicle through which the Chinese government awards scholarships.
