The Lao film industry recently achieved a significant milestone as a new feature film ‘The Signal’ was chosen for its World Premiere at the Shanghai International Film Festival which is scheduled to be held from June 9-18.
‘The Signal’ has also become the first Lao film to receive nominations in three award categories at the Shanghai International Film Festival.
The Signal tells the story of a young woman who is haunted by visions of a mysterious figure while working as a maid for a family outside of her hometown. The film’s trailer is now available on YouTube.
The movie’s director, Lee Phonsavanh, has been nominated for the Best Director award, while Hannah Rosenbloom, the lead actress, has been nominated for the Best Actress award.
Additionally, the film has captured the attention of the festival’s organizers as it is also in the running for the Best Film award in the Asian Cinema New Talent category.
