The Lao Youth Union (LYU) has put forward a draft law to the 9th National Assembly, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding and promoting Lao culture and heritage among the country’s youth.

Mr. Monxay Laomuaxong, Secretary-General of the Lao Youth Union, presented the draft law to the 9th National Assembly on 7 July. The proposed law consists of 11 sections, 5 chapters, and 72 articles.

During the proposal, Monxay spoke about the significant role the new draft law would play in uniting young people in Laos and educating them about the importance of protecting and promoting Lao culture and traditions. He also highlighted that although 553,668 Lao youths are part of the union, a significant portion of the young population has not registered yet.

According to the Union, not joining the organization could expose youths to negative influences, leaving them vulnerable to unscrupulous individuals who might corrupt them with thoughts that contradict the nation’s laws, culture, and customs, Monxay explained.

The LYU believes that the new draft law will serve as a vital tool in effectively managing and guiding Lao youth, while also addressing the various social challenges they face.

Concluding his proposal, Monxay added that the new draft law underscores Laos’ commitment to nurturing its young population and preserving its cultural heritage.

By enacting this law, the country aims to create a supportive environment for its youth, empowering them to make positive contributions to society while safeguarding their well-being and future.
