A Lao National Assembly (NA) delegation, led by Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Sanya Praseuth, participated in the 48th General Assembly Meeting of the French-speaking Countries in Georgia from 4 to 7 July to discuss various regional and global issues.

The meeting was attended by delegations from 38 French-speaking countries, as well as representatives from the French-speaking International Organization (OIF) and the Secretary-General of the French-speaking Parliamentary Assembly (APF).

During the meeting, representatives from each region discussed the socio-economic situation in their respective countries, considered the adoption of the APF strategic plan framework for 2023–2027, implemented the revision of the APF constitution, and adopted the resolution on combating global warming, particularly in Francophonie nations.

The Lao delegation also spoke on the aforementioned issues and it encouraged increasing cooperation in the areas of education, public health, tourism, cultural exchange, and the promotion of learning and teaching French to strengthen the role of the APF and OIF and make them more prominent in Southeast Asia and internationally.

Additionally, it was decided by the delegates that the next APF General Meeting will take place in Canada in July 2024.
