The Mongolian president will soon be on his way to Laos. In just a few days, on 5-6 November, President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa is scheduled to meet with his Lao counterpart in Vientiane to solidify the long-established amicable relationship between their countries.

Ukhnaa will embark on an official visit to Laos upon the invitation of Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith. Laos and Mongolia established diplomatic ties in September 1962, which have only grown stronger ever since.

Recently, the President of the National Assembly, Xaysomphone Phomvihane, paid an official visit to Mongolia and signed the Memorandum of Parliamentary Cooperation with his Mongolian counterparts.

Additionally, in 2022, Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Saleumxay Kommasith and his Lao delegation were welcomed in Mongolia by his local counterpart. The meeting resulted in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen ties and broaden cooperation between the two countries’ ministries of foreign affairs.

President Ukhnaa assumed office as Mongolia’s president in 2021. He was formerly Deputy Prime Minister and the country’s 30th and 31st Prime Minister from 2017-2021.
