Lao President Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthen Ties With North Korea

Laos’ President Thongloun Sisoulith reiterated his commitment to enhancing relations with the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) in a message of greetings.

According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), on 8 November, Thongloun conveyed this commitment in response to birthday flowers from Kim Jong-un, Secretary General of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) and Chairman of the State Affairs Commission.

Thongloun conveyed gratitude for the birthday wishes from Kim Jong-un and asserted his confidence in the ongoing progress of North Korea’s development under the leadership of the WPK and Kim Jong-un.

The Lao leader also expressed a sincere desire to fortify the longstanding bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two nations, their respective parties, and their people. 

Laos and North Korea established diplomatic relations in 1974. In 2020, Laos and North Korea commemorated the 55th anniversary of the first historic summit between the two countries’ first leaders.

Additionally, he extended well-wishes to Kim Jong-un for good health and success in fulfilling his responsibilities.
