The Australian Embassy in Laos is pleased to announce the opening of applications for the prestigious Australia Awards Scholarships for study in Australia commencing in 2025. The scholarships are aimed at future Lao leaders across all sectors in Laos.

The Australian Government will accept applications for study commencing in 2025 through the website www.australiaawardslaos.org from 1 February to 30 April 2024.

Australia Awards Scholarships offer Lao people a world-class Australian education in a friendly, safe multicultural environment. Scholars gain valuable knowledge and skills in priority areas of study that will help them make a difference in Laos. The experience will also provide scholars with the opportunity to forge links with Australia’s public, private, academic, and civil society networks.

“We are proud to help develop Australian-educated Lao leaders in fields that are important for Laos’ development,” explained Dan Heldon, Deputy Head of Mission at the Australian Embassy in Laos. “We encourage anyone who is interested to apply now. We especially encourage women, people living with disabilities, and other marginalized groups to apply, as these scholarships can be a life-changing experience.”

Australia Awards Scholarships’ priority areas for Laos are climate change and environment; digital economy; economic growth; gender, disability, and social inclusion; health and infrastructure; and connectivity. Scholarships will be offered for study at the Vocational Education and Training (VET) level, the master’s degree level, and for doctorate degrees (PhD).

Applicants are assessed on their leadership attributes, academic competence, and potential outcomes, specifically their contribution to development outcomes in Laos. Successful applicants receive a comprehensive package of support to study in Australia, including additional English language training where required, and join an Australian alumni network of over 1,400 people on return to Laos.
