Nine Lao University Students Heading for Japan to Participate in the ASEAN-Japan Students Conference

This Week

Nine Lao university students will soon travel to Japan to participate in the ASEAN-Japan Students Conference as part of JENESYS, an exchange program supported by the Japanese government.  The nine students were selected with assistance from the Ministry of Education and Sports.

The program aims to foster deeper understanding between young people from ASEAN countries, Timor-Leste, and Japan, and to enhance cooperation and friendships by celebrating cultural diversity and addressing shared issues in Asia.

At the conference, participants from different countries will join one of three groups to discuss key themes: maritime security and the rule of law, climate change and energy, and education and cultural preservation. Each group will present their action plans during the final session of the conference.

Before the conference, participants will visit cities in Japan to learn about local efforts to address these challenges. They will also engage in cultural exchanges, workshops, and interactions with the local community. During their stay and upon returning home to Laos, the students are encouraged to share their experiences and insights widely, including through social media.

JENESYS, short for Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths, is a program promoting youth exchanges between Japan and the Asia-Pacific region. Since its establishment in 2007, over 2,300 young people from Laos have participated in similar exchange opportunities.
