Lao Brewery Company and PR Partner Rantau+ Win Gold at Global Sustainability and Purpose Awards

This Week

On 21 November, Lao Brewery Company (LBC), part of the Carlsberg Group, and its long-term PR partner Rantau+ received Gold in the Best Technological Innovation category at the Sustainability and Purpose Awards 2025 in London for their campaign, “Aligning Lao Pride with Global Purpose: A Journey of Sustainable Transformation.”

The annual event recognizes organizations that deliver measurable sustainability and social outcomes, aligning with the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Past winners include Dulux, Transport for London, Chelsea FC, Lenovo, Avon, UNDP, Dubai Electricity, and Bath & Body Works.

This year’s award highlights LBC’s efforts to modernize sustainable brewing practices in emerging markets. Through its “Celebrating the Source” platform, the company has integrated environmental restoration, regenerative agriculture, and community-focused initiatives into its operations.

“This recognition underscores how a Lao homegrown brand can drive meaningful environmental and social impact. For Carlsberg and LBC, sustainability is not a project; it is part of our identity. For more than 50 years, we have been brewing for a nation, and today that legacy continues through our commitment to a greener future. We are grateful to Rantau+ for helping us tell this story with clarity and authenticity, and for amplifying Laos’ voice on the global stage,” said Henrik Juel Andersen, Managing Director of Lao Brewery Co., Ltd.

LBC’s recent initiatives include expanding renewable biomass energy use at its Vientiane brewery, which now supplies over 80 percent of its steam energy and reduces annual CO₂ emissions by an estimated 17,000 tons. The company reports achieving its decarbonization targets ahead of Carlsberg’s 2030 global goal.

Its sustainable rice farming program has also grown to 900 hectares, reducing chemical fertilizers by roughly 70 percent while improving yields, farmer incomes, and local biodiversity. LBC has continued to work on water efficiency, waste repurposing, and circular packaging, reporting a 97 percent glass bottle collection rate.

Community engagement remains part of the company’s strategy, including support for women farmers, training for higher-skilled jobs, and contributions to rural development.

Rantau+, LBC’s communications partner since 2018, has helped shape the company’s sustainability messaging through media engagement and regional collaboration. The campaigns have positioned LBC as a brand closely tied to Lao identity and the country’s environmental goals.

“This win goes beyond recognizing LBC’s environmental leadership. It affirms Laos’ ability to spearhead sustainable innovation in an emerging market landscape. We are proud to have helped bring this story to life, translating LBC’s on-ground impact into a narrative that resonates globally,” said Julia Nicholas, Chief Strategy Consultant at Rantau+.

More details on the awards and winning entries are available on the Sustainability and Purpose Awards website.

Founded in 1973, LBC is one of Laos’ largest beverage producers and is home to Beerlao. The company is a subsidiary of the Carlsberg Group and continues to emphasize quality, innovation, and community development.
