Luang Prabang Power Launches “Hinghoi Studio” Craft Learning Center

This Week

Luang Prabang Power Company Limited (LPCL), developer of the Luang Prabang Hydroelectric Power Project (LPHPP), recently launched “Hinghoi Studio”, a creative learning space designed to develop craft skills, promote income generation, and enhance artisanal capabilities among communities surrounding the project area.

The initiative also provides opportunities for children and youth to acquire foundational skills that could support future careers pathways.

Thanawat Trivisvavet, Managing Director of LPCL, said that the company places strong importance on improving the quality of life for communities around the project area as part of its long-term commitment to sustainable social and economic development under the CSR Strategy Framework 2022–2026.

Through the One Power Plant One Product (OPOP) initiative, LPCL aims to promote innovation and create new livelihood opportunities for local communities.

Hinghoi Studio has been developed as a creative learning space that provides training in craft-related skills including sewing, design, machine operation, embroidery, and traditional textile weaving.

The program focuses on integrating traditional Lao artistry with contemporary design, ensuring its relevance in modern society while helping preserve and advance the cultural heritage of Luang Prabang.

Notably, traditional Lao weaving has been inscribed by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity that reflects the deep wisdom and cultural identity of communities in Laos.

In November, Hinghoi Studio organized a series of hands-on workshops introducing basic sewing skills and guided participants through creating practical items such as coasters, napkins, pillow covers, and fabric bags.

These sessions were led by instructors from the Luang Prabang Vocational Technical College, who shared technical expertise and proper sewing methods. The workshops enabled participants to create artisanal products based on their individual strengths while maintaining the high quality, finesse, and unique identity characteristic of Luang Prabang.

Participants who completed the workshops received certificates of training, which can support future craft development or career opportunities.

Beyond being a learning and vocational training center, Hinghoi Studio reflects a model for cross-sector collaboration. The facility was constructed with support from CH. Karnchang (Lao) Co., Ltd., ensuring that the building meets structural standards while harmonizing with the architectural character of the World Heritage City of Luang Prabang.

In partnership with the Luang Prabang Vocational Technical College, the company aims to ensure that cultural heritage continues to thrive alongside sustainable community development.
