Cambodia and Laos are preparing for a royal visit by King Norodom Sihamoni later this year to mark 70 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
The announcement came after a farewell meeting on 20 January between Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn and Laos’ outgoing Ambassador Buakeo Phumvongsay.
While the exact date of the visit is yet to be confirmed, the trip is expected to celebrate the long-standing relationship between the two countries and strengthen their cooperation across various sectors.
This year also marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Laos and Cambodia, a milestone following their 2019 agreement to elevate the partnership to a Comprehensive and Long-Lasting Strategic Partnership. Over the years, both countries have deepened their relationship through high-level exchanges and mutual support on regional and international matters.
During the recent meeting, Minister Sokhonn praised Ambassador Buakeo for his work in strengthening the relationship, highlighting the success of the 12th Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party earlier this month.
Ambassador Buakeo thanked Cambodia for its support and emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between the two nations.
The King’s visit will further strengthen ties between Laos and Cambodia, focusing on expanding political, economic, and cultural cooperation in the future.
