Construction has begun on a 9.5-megawatt solar power project in southern Laos that is expected to supply clean electricity to communities across Salavan province by the end of 2026.
The project, developed by VS Solar One Co., Ltd., consists of three solar farms with a combined installed capacity of 9.5 MW. The facilities will be located in Tao Poun village in Salavan district, Phakha village in Vapi district, and Paloy village in Ta-Oy district.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held on 29 May at the Tao Poun project site, attended by provincial leaders, government officials and company representatives.
According to Soksavanh Phetrasy, director of VS Solar One Co., Ltd., the company has already signed power tariff agreements with Electricité du Laos (EDL) for all three sites. A concession agreement for the project was signed on November 13, 2025.
The project is scheduled for completion by the end of next year and will add renewable energy capacity to Laos’ national power network.
The largest of the three facilities will be built in Paloy village with a capacity of 3.5 MW, while the remaining two sites will each generate 3 MW.
The company said the project forms part of a broader expansion of solar energy development in Laos.
VS Solar One previously developed three solar projects in Bolikhamxay province with a combined capacity of 7.5 MW. Construction on those facilities is nearing completion and the company expects them to be connected to the EDL grid in June.
The firm also plans to double its installed solar capacity in Bolikhamxay to 15 MW and expand solar developments to other provinces.
Provincial authorities described the Salavan project as an important step toward increasing the use of renewable energy and supporting long-term sustainable development in Laos.
Following the groundbreaking ceremony, officials participated in a ribbon-cutting event and planted trees within the project area as part of an environmental awareness campaign.
