Coinciding with World Mental Health Day, volunteers from Sands China and NBA Cares gather together for service to the community today for Health and Wellness Day, the fourth event of the NBA Cares x Sands Cares Community Impact Week 2026 at the Fuhong Society of Macau’s Happy Kitchen Social Enterprise.

Two NBA legends—Stephon Marbury, a two-time NBA All-Star, and Cuttino Mobley— joined executives from Las Vegas Sands and Sands China, Sands Cares Ambassadors, and Fuhong members to assemble and distribute boxed lunches, delivering care and warm wishes to local elderly residents and community members in need. This initiative will benefit a total of 1,500 individuals, and underscores Sands China’s commitment to serving the Macao community by leveraging the impact of an international basketball event to unite stakeholders from different sectors and give back to the community.

Following last year’s Impact Week initiative, which delivered boxed lunches to local communities, Sands China has once again joined hands with the Fuhong Society of Macau during The NBA China Games this year to bring this tradition of care to Happy Kitchen, a newly established social enterprise of Fuhong. As a community canteen initiative supported by Sands China, Happy Kitchen provides vocational training and employment support for local youth with special educational needs, persons with disabilities, and individuals in mental health recovery. The initiative helps participants apply their strengths and integrate into the community, while also providing meal support to those in need. Through its support of this initiative, Sands China aims to further promote social inclusion and extend its positive impact to benefit the wider community.

During the event, representatives of Fuhong Society of Macau led guests on a tour of Happy Kitchen, introducing the social enterprise’s vision, operational model, and daily operations. Subsequently, executives from Las Vegas Sands and Sands China, and Fuhong representatives officiated a plaque unveiling ceremony to mark the official launch of the social enterprise’s service. This initiative underscores both parties’ shared commitment to fostering social inclusion and creating equal opportunities for individuals in need to engage with society and unleash their potential.

Following the ceremony, the NBA legends, Las Vegas Sands and Sands China executives, Sands Cares Ambassadors, and Fuhong members joined forces to assemble 200 lunch boxes and deliver them to local community members. The event was filled with a joyful and warm atmosphere, as all participants demonstrated teamwork, putting their care for the Macao community into meaningful action.

Patrick Dumont, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Las Vegas Sands Corp., and chairman of the board and non-executive director of Sands China Ltd., said: “We sincerely thank the Central People’s Government, the Macao SAR Government, and the people of Macao for their long-standing guidance and support. As an enterprise rooted in Macao, we have once again partnered with NBA Cares to extend the impact of a world-class sporting event and bring support to every corner of the local community. Serving alongside local social service organisations, we are dedicated to building more caring and impactful community services. Together with NBA legends, we have engaged with communities across Macao, extending warmth while harnessing the power of sport to bring people together and promote social inclusion. Looking ahead, Sands China remains committed to supporting local community initiatives and working together with all sectors of society to foster the diversified and inclusive development of Macao.”

Grant Chum, chief executive officer and executive director of Sands China Ltd., said: “Sands China has always been committed to serving the community, and we are delighted to leverage this year’s world-class NBA China Games to bring together caring efforts from across the region and join hands with the Fuhong Society of Macau to deliver boxed lunches to people in need within the city. As an inclusive platform that combines community service with vocational training, Happy Kitchen empowers people of all abilities to realise their potential and better integrate into the community.

“With the guidance of the Macao SAR Government and the continued support of all sectors of the community for Sands China’s community care efforts, we are pleased to support this meaningful initiative and work together to foster a more inclusive community. Coinciding with World Mental Health Day, we are also encouraging greater awareness of physical and mental well-being through wellness workshops and interactive activities, helping foster a caring and inclusive society. Looking ahead, Sands China will continue to leverage the opportunities arising from international events in Macao, supporting the city’s economic diversification while uniting partners across sectors to make a positive and lasting contribution to the community, and to jointly build a healthier and happier Macao.”

Jennifer Chou, director of Fuhong Society of Macau, said: “Happy Kitchen is a social enterprise established by Fuhong Society of Macau in August this year. Through our meal service operations, we provide vocational training and work experiences for persons with disabilities, individuals in mental health recovery, and young people with special educational needs. To date, more than 30 trainees have engaged in various aspects of training, including meal preparation, food portioning, lunch box packaging, and customer service. By serving approximately 250 meals to the community each day, this initiative enables our trainees to gain practical skills and valuable experience in a real-world working environment.

“This boxed lunch and meal voucher distribution initiative, held at Happy Kitchen as part of the NBA Cares x Sands Cares Community Impact Week 2026, brought the community together through sports and wellness while extending care to those in need. The initiative also provided an opportunity for more people to recognise the capabilities, dedication and contributions of our members. By working together, corporations and social enterprises can combine resources and expertise to create more opportunities for persons with disabilities to access vocational training, gain practical work experience, and contribute to the community, building a healthier, more caring and inclusive society for all.”

The event also featured a series of wellness workshops, including a singing bowl experience and drawing sessions. Guests joined members of the Sheng Kung Hui Macau Social Services Coordination Office and Bosco Youth Service Network, as well as Sands Cares Ambassadors, to take part in the workshops, engaging in creative activities and meaningful interactions that promoted mental well-being, while experiencing the warmth of care and companionship.

Guests attending Health and Wellness Day included: Kathy Behrens, president of social responsibility and player programs of NBA; NBA legends Stephon Marbury and Cuttino Mobley; Maria de Fatima Salvador dos Santos Ferreira, president of the general assembly of Fuhong Society of Macau; Lai Fai Pok, vice president of the general assembly of Fuhong Society of Macau; Wong Hou, chairman of the management committee of Fuhong Society of Macau; Patrick Dumont; Dr. Wilfred Wong, executive vice chairman of Sands China Ltd.; Grant Chum; Hubert Wang, chief operating officer of Sands China Ltd.; and Dave Sun, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Sands China Ltd. and managing director of Venetian Macau Limited.

The NBA Cares x Sands Cares Community Impact Week 2026 is taking place over five consecutive days, Oct. 7-11, featuring a diverse programme of activities focused on youth development, healthy living and community inclusion. Current NBA players and legends engage with communities across Macao, with the initiative seeking to extend the impact of the NBA sporting event into the community and enable more Macao residents to experience the positive energy and excitement generated by the world-class basketball event.

The concluding event of the Impact Week, the Community Basketball Carnival, will take place tomorrow (Oct. 11) at NBA HOUSE at Halls A and B of Cotai Expo at The Venetian® Macao. During the event, an NBA legend and NBA coaches will participate in a basketball training session with members of Macau Special Olympics, bringing the Impact Week to a close through a sports exchange initiative that promotes social inclusion.
