Authorities to Convert University and National Stadium to Field Hospitals in Vientiane

Authorities in Vientiane Capital are considering converting the club hall of the National University of Laos (NUOL) in Dongdok, Xaythany District, and the National Stadium at Km 16 of Xaythany into field hospitals to accommodate people infected with Covid-19.

According to a report by Lao Phatthana, the National Taskforce Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control is planning to establish the field hospitals to accommodate an increasing number of Covid-19 patients in Vientiane Capital.

Deputy Director of the Department of Healthcare and Rehabilitation, Ministry of Health, Dr. Sommana Lattana, says the club hall of the NUOL and the National Stadium will be converted for use as field hospitals.

“Two new field hospitals may accommodate some 250 Covid-19 patients,” said Dr. Sommana.

“There are already eight hospitals used for treatment of Coronavirus patients in Vientiane Capital including Mittaphab hospital, Setthathirath hospital, 103 Military Hospital, Futsal Field Hospital in Houayhong Village of Chanthabouly District, Lanxang Indoor Statdium Field Hospital in Nonghai Village of Sisattanak District, and now NUOL, and the National Stadium,” Dr. Sommana Lattana added.

Meanwhile, Covid patients have been receiving treatment at four hospitals in Champasack Province, three in Savannakhet Province, and three in Khammouane Province, while other provinces have relied only on their provincial hospitals.
