Supreme Court Pledges Better Justice Delivery

This Week

The newly elected Party Committee of the People’s Supreme Court (PSC) has pledged to deliver better justice to society as the seven-member committee will oversee the guidance of the court’s affairs over the next five years.

The commitment was made on Tuesday at the third Party Congress of the PSC in Vientiane when the committee members were elected from nine candidates.

In its first meeting, the committee re-elected Mr. Khamphan Sitthidampha as the PSC Party Secretary. Mr. Khamphan is also a member of the Party Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party.

A Politburo member and Vice President Phankham Viphavanh were among the delegates attending and witnessing the election.

During the one-day sitting, the participants heard a report highlighting the achievements the Supreme Court and all courts have made over the past five years.

So far, there are more than 60 courts of various levels across the country. Over the past five years, some 37,846 cases were sued through these courts, of which 36,076 cases representing 95.32 percent were ruled out.

The new committee has pledged to work harder to ensure that court officials are performing their mandates with honesty, transparency and ethics in line with the PSC’s enshrined slogan and the next five-year plan approved by the congress.

The congress is committed to strengthening the organisational structure of the courts in order to improve their performance system so that the prosecution processes by courts are expedited, accurate and just.

In his talks to the congress, Mr. Phankham told the new committee to work harder to realise the resolution of the 10th Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party as well as the outcomes of the PSC’s congress.

Contributions by courts and further improvement to their working methods is significant to boosting the Lao government’s efforts to strive for its ambitious goal of creating Laos as a society ruled by law.
