Laos Confirms 198 New Cases of Covid-19 with 104 Local Cases

Laos has confirmed 198 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the total number of cases to 17,555.

The country conducted 3,425 tests over the last 24 hours, confirming 198 new cases of Covid-19, according to a report by the National Taskforce.

There were 104 community cases of Covid-19 confirmed, with nine in Vientiane Capital, 13 in Savannakhet Province, 25 in Champasack, one in Bokeo, nine in Luang Prabang, 43 in Khammouane, three in Luang Namtha, and one in Sekong.

The local cases in Khammouane involve those who had close contact with previously announced cases, while in Chamapsack nearly all the local cases occurred in Pathoumphone District and were related to those infected at Pathoumphoen District Hospital except for one case traced to Pakse City.

In Savannakhet, seven of the local cases were doctors and nurses who had been working at the KM 9 quarantine center and underwent quarantine at the Dalavanh Guesthouse, while the remaining cases involved those who had close contact with previously announced cases.

Cases in Luang Prabang included laborers who had returned from work in Vientiane Province and Xayaboury Province, as well as those who had contact with them.

Meanwhile, the nine cases recorded in Vientiane Capital involved family and friends who attended a funeral in Sang Namman, Pakse City in Champasack Province.

Three families have been infected, including a family with two cases in Khamsavath Village and one case in Nongkhor Village, Saysettha District. The family arrived back in Vientiane Capital on 7 September.

The second family saw two people test positive, including two merchants with stalls at the Aussie Market in Sikhottabong, but residing in Donnokhoum Village, Sisattanak District.  The family arrived back in Vientiane Capital on 9 September.

The third family, residing in Donkasai Village, Hatsayfong District, recorded four cases of Covid-19, arriving back in Vientiane Capital on 10 September.

New red zones have been declared in Vientiane Capital, with Khamsavath Village in Saysettha District now a red zone, along with Donnokhoum Village in Sisattanak District, and Donsasai Village in Hatsayfong District.

The country recorded 94 imported cases of Covid-19, with 21 in Vientiane Capital, 39 in Savannakhet, two in Luang Prabang, 26 in Salavanh, five in Champasack, and one in Xayaboury.

The country now has 4,270 active cases of Covid-19 and has recorded 16 deaths, with the total number of cases standing at 17,555.
