Dengue Fever Cases Push 10,000 in Laos This Year

Cases of dengue fever in Laos have reached nearly 10,000 in just half a year, according to the Ministry of Health.

Vientiane Capital has recorded the highest number of dengue fever infections this year at 4,874. Salavanh Province saw 834 cases, with 763 cases recorded in Sekong, and 736 cases in Luang Namtha Province.

Twelve deaths have been recorded so far, with five deaths in Vientiane Capital and two in Salavanh Province.

A report from the Center of Information for Education and Health shows that some 108 cases of the mosquito-transmitted disease were reported across the country yesterday.

Lao health authorities are urging people to clear potential mosquito breeding sites around their homes and places of work to help control the spread of the virus.

Dengue fever is a mosquito-transmitted and localized disease in tropical countries, including Laos.

Laos has witnessed outbreaks of Dengue fever for 30 years since the first cases were recorded in 1995, according to the book.
