Lao Students Participate Cultural Exchange Program in Japan

This Week

Ten students departed from Laos to Japan on Tuesday to participate in cultural exchange program, JENESYS 2022, supported by the Government of Japan.

The program, titled Japan-ASEAN History of Development Cooperation, is
comprised of students from ASEAN Member States and Timor-Leste. The program encourages a better understanding of Japan-ASEAN relationships and promotes mutual trust and understanding among the young people of these countries and Japan.

The ten Lao students were selected in cooperation with the Lao Youth Union and the
Japan International Cooperation Center (JICE), an official agency for JENESYS 2022.

The Lao students, together with fellow students from other countries, will improve their knowledge through lectures, visiting facilities and industries, and experiencing cross-cultural events, workshops, and discussions with the locals in Japan.

They will share their experiences, learnings, and insights with wider audiences at home and abroad by utilizing social networking services (SNS) both during their stay in Japan and after returning home.

JENESYS or Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths is the
a youth-focused people-to-people exchange program between Japan and the Asia-Pacific
region.

More than 2,200 Lao young people have been to Japan under the exchange programs since JENESYS’ establishment in 2007.

After a two-year suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in-person visits restarted in October 2022. The exchange programs will continue to build strong foundations for long-term friendship and cooperation between Japan and Laos.
