Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Security, General Vilay Lakhamfong paid a visit to two injured officers who were involved in a gunfight with an armed assailant, at 103 Military Hospital last week.
General Vilay and other relevant officials visited Mr. Phommala Vimachittaphong and Mr. Somchai Keomanykha, the two wounded officers from Luang Prabang’s Nan District Police Department, who had been receiving medical care at the 103 Military Hospital in Vientiane Capital on Wednesday.
The two officers had previously been involved in a gun battle during which they were shot at by an armed man who fled from Luang Prabang after robbing a bank to Vientiane Capital’s Xayaboury district, where he was shot dead.
On this occasion, the hospital’s medical personnel assured the deputy prime minister that the injured officers were getting better and were on their way toward making a full recovery.
The report also said that General Vilay commended the two policemen for their bravery in trying to nab the armed man. He also wished them a speedy recovery.
The two officers have reportedly received donations for medical treatment from both the Ministry of Public Security and the Department of Social Security for LAK 20 Million (USD 1192).
