Fake Auto Parts Worth THB 10 Million Confiscated by Thai Authorities

This Week

Officers from the Department of Intellectual Property, Ministry of Commerce along with other relevant authorities raided and seized THB 10 million (USD 286,916) worth of fake auto parts in Thailand’s Nakhon Chaisi district on Wednesday.

The Bangkok Post reported that a team of local and economic crime suppression police and officials from other relevant agencies searched the warehouse earlier this week.

Investigations before the raid had found that the warehouse was being used to store the fake car and motorbike parts to be distributed to auto parts shops and garages, to sell at below-market prices.

The authorities had a warrant from the Nakhon Pathom Provincial Court to search the warehouse, after the warehouse caretaker, a 24-year-old man known as Sunthorn, had informed them of the goods.

During the raid, authorities managed to gather around 200,000 parts, ranging from motorbike chains, spark plugs, and more under fake brandings such as Yamaha, NSK, and Honda.

The warehouse is said to have been run by a Chinese businessman, as for Sunthorn, he has been put in police custody as the investigation is still ongoing.

Earlier this year, Thai authorities managed to intercept and impound assets worth THB 230 million (USD 6,790,670) from a large-scale drug cartel in the country.
