Road Accidents in Laos Claim 85 Lives in February

This Week

According to the Traffic Police Department, 85 people died in road accidents in Laos in February, a decrease from the previous month’s figure of 114 casualties.

A total of 624 road accidents took place across the country in February killing 85 people and injuring 997, a drop of 29 deaths and 363 injuries from January’s numbers.

The report from the traffic authorities suggested that the two main causes of road accidents in February were driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, as well as speeding.

Most accidents occurred between 5 pm to 12 am and happened most frequently on Friday and Saturday.

The majority of these accidents involved drivers ranging from the ages of 16 to 30, followed by 31 to 50. Their occupations were listed as laborers, traders, and students.

Authorities also reported an increase in traffic accidents involving tourists from other countries. Vietnamese tourists were the most frequently affected, followed by Thai and Chinese tourists.

Vientiane Capital saw the highest number of accidents during the last month, followed by Champasack and Savannakhet provinces.
