Laos-Vietnam Drug Trafficking Ring Gets Nabbed By Authorities

This Week

A 37-year-old man was arrested in Phu Loc District, Vietnam last week after he was caught trying to smuggle drugs from Laos to Vietnam.

The person was arrested on 9 March after investigations by relevant authorities revealed 2.1 kg of methamphetamine, 3 kg of ketamine, and 1.4 kg of other synthetic drugs in the luggage of his car.

Consequently, the person was charged with attempting to transport drugs by car from Laos to Vietnam. The police had made similar arrests on 7 March and 8 March at the border as well.

Two days later, the Customs Department of the central province of Quang Tri said that in coordination with the provincial police and border guards, they broke up a drug trafficking ring from Laos to Vietnam, according to VN Express.

Further investigations into the case are underway.

Recently, a Lao man was sentenced to death by the Ha Tinh Central Court for moving drugs by car across the border. He was paid USD 42 to transport one kilogram of ketamine and 7,000 amphetamine pills from Laos into Vietnam.
