This Week

Police in Cambodia have arrested two Lao nationals for smuggling methamphetamine pills across the Laos-Cambodia border to Stung Treng province.

Nok Sovannasan, 23, and Keo Khongmoeung, 20, both from Vientiane province in Laos, were detained by Cambodian authorities for drug smuggling.

Lieutenant Colonel Heng Narong, the Deputy Chief of the Anti-Drug Police Department in Stung Treng Province, said that the suspects were traveling by car across the Laos-Cambodia border when they were instructed to stop.

The police at the border checkpoint searched their car, checked their travel documents, and found 13 packages of methamphetamine pills.

“They were arrested by our Cambodian anti-drug officers with significant evidence after police seized 13 packages of meth from them, which they [had] planned to sell in Stung Treng province,” said Lt Col Narong.

After their conviction in Cambodia, the two men will be charged with drug transport and trafficking and face a life sentence each.
